If you’ve ever landed in Rhodes with kids after a long flight, you know the struggle is very real.
After a few trips (and a couple of hard-learned lessons 😅), I’ve picked up some practical tips that make airport transfers with little ones much smoother.
Here’s my tried-and-tested survival guide.
✈️ Pre-book a transfer with proper car seats
Trust me — don’t rely on finding a taxi with child seats at the last minute. Rhodes Airport is small but busy, and taxis don’t always carry car seats.
When you pre-book, you get ISOFIX car seats, properly secured to the vehicle — far safer than a seatbelt installation and one less thing to worry about after a long flight.
🚖 Know your vehicle options
Rhodes offers several taxi and transfer options, and choosing the right one makes a huge difference when traveling with kids.
✔️ Standard taxis (sedans)
• Fit 1 adult + 2 baby seats or 2 adults + 1 baby seat
• Space for 2–3 large suitcases
• Can feel tight, especially with strollers
✔️ SUV taxis & 6-seaters
• Fit 4 adults + 2 car seats
• Plenty of luggage space
• Back seats are foldable, so check comfort if you’re heading far
✔️ 8-seater minivans
• Ideal for larger families
• Much more space for kids, bags, and strollers
✔️ Transfer companies
• Usually operate 7–8 passenger minivans or 11–19 passenger minibuses
• Perfect for big families, groups, or lots of luggage
🛬 Know exactly where to meet your driver
The arrivals area at Rhodes Airport can get chaotic, especially in summer. I always confirm where the driver will be waiting — usually just outside arrivals with a name sign.
This saves a lot of wandering around with tired, impatient kids.
🎒 Pack an “arrival survival kit”
After one delayed flight with a hungry toddler and zero snacks… lesson learned.
Now I always pack:
✅ Small snacks (granola bars = lifesavers)
✅ Wet wipes (kids touch everything)
✅ A lightweight change of clothes (because accidents happen)
🕰️ Give yourself extra time
Baggage delivery at Rhodes Airport can take longer than expected. Add kids who suddenly need the bathroom, and things slow down fast.
I always share my flight number with the driver so they can track delays and be there exactly when we’re ready.
😴 Late-night arrivals? Always book in advance
If your flight lands after 11:00 PM, don’t risk waiting in a taxi queue with sleepy kids. I tried it once — never again.
Pre-booking means straight into the car, zero stress.
🚖 Choosing a transfer service? Read reviews carefully
Not all transfer companies are equal. If you’re booking with a company, check what other parents say about:
✔️ Driving style – Calm and safe, not rushed
✔️ Child seats – Proper ISOFIX seats, not just a booster
✔️ Response time – Fast replies matter, especially before your trip
💡 Bonus tip
If your child gets carsick, tell the driver in advance. Some roads in Rhodes are twisty, and choosing a smoother route can make a big difference.
