Landing in Rhodes with Kids – My Survival Guide!

If you’ve ever landed in Rhodes with kids after a long flight, you know the struggle is real. I’ve learned a few things (sometimes the hard way!), so here are my top life hacks for making airport transfers with little ones as smooth as possible.

✈️ Pre-book a transfer with car seats – Trust me, don’t rely on finding a taxi with car seats last minute. Rhodes Airport is small but busy, and taxis don’t always have child seats. If you pre-book, you get ISOFIX car seats, which are properly secured to the car (way safer than using a seatbelt).

🚖 Know your vehicle options – In Rhodes, there are different types of taxis and transfers, so it’s good to know what works best for your family:
✔️ Standard taxis (sedans) – Fit 1 adult + 2 baby seats OR 2 adults + 1 baby seat, plus 2-3 big suitcases. Space can be tight.
✔️ SUV taxis and 6-seaters – These can take 4 adults + 2 car seats and have huge luggage space. Just keep in mind that the back seats are foldable, so check comfort levels if you have a long ride.
✔️ 8-seater minivans – These taxis offer more space for larger families and extra luggage.
✔️ Transfer companies – Usually operate minivans (7-8 passengers) and minibuses (11-19 passengers), which are great for big families, groups, or those with lots of luggage and strollers.

🛬 Know where to meet your driver – Rhodes Airport’s arrivals area can get chaotic, especially in summer. I always check exactly where the driver will be waiting (usually just outside arrivals with a sign). Saves a lot of wandering around with tired kids!

🎒 Pack an ‘arrival survival kit’ – After a delayed flight, I once found myself at the airport with a cranky toddler and no snacks… never again! Now I always have:
✅ Small snacks (those granola bars have been lifesavers)
✅ Wipes (because kids touch everything)
✅ A lightweight change of clothes (because… accidents happen)

🕰️ Give yourself extra time – Luggage at Rhodes Airport can take forever to arrive, and if you have kids who need a bathroom stop, things slow down even more. I always tell the driver my flight number so they can track delays and be there when I’m ready.

😴 Late-night arrivals = book in advance – If your flight lands after 11 PM, don’t risk waiting in a queue with sleepy kids. I did that once—never again. Pre-booking means straight into the car, no stress.

🚖 Choosing a transfer service? Read the reviews carefully! – Not all transfer services are the same. If you prefer booking with a company, check what other parents say about:
✔️ Driving style – Do they drive calmly and safely without rushing?
✔️ Child seats – Do they have proper ISOFIX car seats, not just a booster thrown in the back?
✔️ Response time – The most important! Do they reply fast to messages, or leave you hanging before your trip?

💡 Bonus tip – If your kids get carsick, let the driver know to take the smoother route. Some roads in Rhodes are twisty, and a little heads-up can make a big difference.
